About
My name is Martha Starr and I live in the Charlestown Navy Yard in Charlestown MA. I grew up in a family that surrounded itself with art, music, theater, and food.
As early as I can remember I drew in my parents’ art books, trying to copy Picasso, Cezanne or Degas. As soon as I was old enough, I started taking art lessons, and continued through high school, including the MFA Museum School. I was an art major in college, and it was at that point, surrounded by peers of equal or greater abilities, that I “caved.”
Fast-forward forty years, I am finally “retired” from an excellent career in education that was always accompanied by a minor, yet continuing effort in painting. Here I am now and my art has become my work. I am in heaven in my studio. It has been a wonderful journey and the course of my style and aesthetic is ever evolving.
